Haiku for May
Life stirs in the shell:Shoots spring, buds burst,blossom flies
-Floating pink silk snow.
My favourite ever poem is this by A.E.Housman
Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.
Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy years a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.
And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.
Here is a similar idea, from Robert Frost:
Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers today
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.
To which I say, Amen....
